Abstract

This research was motivated by a collection of folklore from the province of Riau as a target of character education in the folklore of the Riau province to preserve and document regional oral literature that contains the noble values of life, apart from that as teaching material for teachers in schools as literary learning materials. which is interesting and fun. The problem examined in this study is the value of character education contained in a collection of regional folklore throughout the Riau province. The purpose of this research is to describe, analyze, and interpret the value of character education in the collection of folk tales throughout the province of Riau. Theories used in this study are about character education by Prayitno and Khaidir (2011). The data source used is the book collection of Regional Folklore in Riau Province. The method used is descriptive analysis method. This research approach is a qualitative approach. The type of research used is Library Research (research0kepustaka). The results of the study can be concluded that there is a value of character education in a collection of regional folklore throughout the province of Riau. The value of character education in the collection of Regional Folklore in Riau Province contains 109 data. The results of the research on the value of character education in the aspects of faith and piety are characterized by the behavior and attitudes of the figures who believe in God's power. The aspect of honesty is characterized by the attitudes and behavior of the characters who can account for the character's words and behavior. Aspects of intelligence can be characterized by the attitudes and behavior of characters who are able to find solutions, think logically, and think forward. The toughness aspect is characterized by the character's behavior of working hard and maintaining personal safety and health. The caring aspect is characterized by the character's behavior who obeys the norms and likes to help. The value of dominant character education is the value of the honesty of the indicator saying what it is, because it can be seen from the behavior of the characters in the folklore of the regions of Riau province by acknowledging or providing information based on what they are. Conversely, the least character education value is the value of intelligence character education, indicators of active / dynamic behavior, intelligence, and directed thinking, because in regional folklore throughout Riau province this gives an idea that the behavior and attitudes of characters in a collection of folk tales tend to be passive. in doing anything before acting .
