Abstract

The soil classification in Riau Province is mostly peat soil. Peat soil is known as soil that has a very low bearing capacity, very high compressibility and long-term excessive settlement. The Nailed-slab system as a soil reinforcement is expected to reduce settlement and increase the stability of peat soil. This study aims to determine the behavior of Nailed-slab system on peat soil under embankments due to loading. In this research a model scale 1 : 5 was used by considering the available test box dimension. The slab dimension was 80 cm x 20 cm and 5 cm in thickness for 3 or 5 piles numbers in a singgle row of pile. The pile dimension was 3.5 cm in diameter and 30 cm in length. While the plain slab was 75 cm x 25 cm and 5 cm in thickness. The load model used is made of hollow iron with a size of 3 cm x 3 cm. The deflection value is obtained from observations on the dial gauge which shows the rate of decline during loading. The data obtained from the test results are then processed in tables and deflection graphs. The results of tests carried out for 458 hours show that at the center of the span, the plain plate experienced a greater decrease, namely 15 mm compared to the Nailed-slab system with 3 piles and 5 piles, namely 7.73 mm and 7.01 mm. Whereas on the edge of the plate the highest drop occurred on the plain plate, namely 12.87 mm, on the Nailed-slab system with 3 piles, namely 6.55 mm and on the Nailed-slab system with 5 piles, namely 5.89 mm. In the middle of the plate, there was a reduction of 53.3% on the 5 piles Nailed-slab system and 48.47% on the 3 piles Nailed-slab system to the plain plate because the pile on the Nailed-slab system were able to reduce the drop and keep the plate in contact with the ground. This applies to plates with 1 row of pile.
