Abstract

The phenomenon of shoreline changes that occur on the north coast of Rangsang Barat District needs serious attention, this is because every year the coastal damage that occurs in the area has increased significantly. The dynamic nature of coastal areas makes them vulnerable to change. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of predicting future shoreline changes and finding coastal management strategies in Rangsang Barat District. The approach used in this research is inductive, with the type of quantitative descriptive research. The method used to analyze shoreline changes is the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS), then shoreline changes are predicted using the Linear Regression Rate (LRR) method, to analyze land use change using the visual interpretation method, then a management strategy was developed using the descriptive method. The results of the analysis of shoreline changes found an average abrasion rate of 13.90 m/yr, while the average increase in the amount of land due to accretion that occurred in this area was 11.85 m/yr. If the shoreline changes in this area are not handled, then in 2031 the average accretion rate is around 19.78 m/yr, and the abrasion rate is 27.17 m/yr. Coastline changes affect land use in the area, most of the affected areas are settlements, and related non-agricultural lands, as well as non-agricultural areas, where in residential areas the coastline damage occurs very badly due to the absence of disaster mitigation related to abrasion and accretion in the area. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a strategy for managing coastal areas, including (1) Carrying out the construction of wave barriers and breakwaters. (2) To rehabilitate coastal areas by planting mangroves. (3) Prohibiting the opening of new land for plantation, agriculture and other businesses with a minimum limit of 500 meters from the coast. (4) Utilizing the mangrove forest area as an ecotourism area.
