Abstract

Fake news (hoax) has several differences between ancient times and today's modern times, in which fake news (hoax) is only oriented in the print media. The more advanced technology, the more advanced the spread of fake news (hoax) through the internet and spread to the electronic media which is the consumption of society today, but the most striking difference is hoax news becomes very out of control As for the main problem in this reseach are: How is the implementation of the criminal investigation of hoaxes resulting in consumer losses in electronic transactions at the Riau Regional Police and what are the inhibiting factors in carrying out the investigation of the crime of spreading hoaxes that lead to consumer losses in Electronic Transactions at the Riau Regional Police. The research method used in this research is classified as obseervational research, by means of a survey, namely research is carried out at the research location using data collection tools. Meanwhile, in terms of its nature, this research is descriptive in nature, which provides a clear and detailed description of the main problem under study. The results of the study show that in the investigation of hoaxes, the investigation is carried out in accordance with the formulation of the Criminal Procedure Code, but it is still not implemented effectively and the inhibiting factor in this research is the lack of equipment or other necessities to support the investigation process in an effort to check disclosure the perpetrators of spreading hoaxes of the Riau Police are still limited.
