Abstract

One part that can indicate the successful or unsuccessful learning of foreign language is students' language attitude towards the language. Therefore, this research aims to portray the students' attitude towards English, and how they apply their attitude in their daily life. In addition, it tries to find out the students' orientation in studying English. The design of this research was descriptive qualitative method. The sample of this research is the fourth students of English Department of FKIP Uiniverstas Islam Riau. The total number of respondents is 25 students. Collecting data is done through five-point Likert scale questionnaire survey and interview. The questionnaire consists of 3o statements. Research results show that the average number of students is 84,9, which shows that that students have a positive attitude towards the English language education of FKIP Universitas Isla Riau. Most students agree that English is an important language in the era of globalization and most of them say that students are proud of their learning English language, students feel happy when students speak English with friends, and even Students agree that they will speak English but sometimes Indonesian to their friends or classmates when they are having a casual conversation. His It seems they don't have enough confidence to express their opinion of themselves.
