Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out whether there is the effect of implementation Scientific Approach in teaching speaking ability for Grade VIII students at MTsN 3 Pekanbaru or not. There are two variables of this research: the first variable or variable X is Scientific Approach as independent variable and the second variable or variable Y is teaching speaking ability as dependent variable. This research is one-group pretest-posttest. It means that the researcher is only conduct one class as a sample in this research. Before the variable Y gives a particular treatment, the pre-test is given and after the variable Y gives a particular treatment, the researcher takes measurements or post-test of variable X to know the effect of implementation scientific approach in teaching speaking. Hence, this experimental research only involved one group of students; they were Grade VIII students, as population of this research. This experimental research only involved one group of students; they were Grade VIII students, as population of this research. Grade VIII.1 contains 32 students were chosen as the sample, they were the students who was given spoken test after followed teaching speaking ability by implementing Scientific Approach. Furthermore, the researcher findings included the results of the research, as follows: the analysis result of the mean score in pre-test was 84 and the mean score in post-test was 90.5. It shows that this experimental class experiences improvement in their spoken test and hypothesis testing indicates that the score in post-test were higher than in pre-test. It can be seen the value of sig. (2-tailed) is 0.000 lower than value at the significant level 0.5. Furthermore, the hypothesis testing indicates that the score in post-test was significantly higher than the score in pre-test. So, implementation Scientific Approach could be one of references in teaching material.
