Abstract

Adaptation of Intercultural Communication of the Duano Tribe in Tanah Merah District, Indragiri Hilir Regency NAMA NPM This research is motivated by the existence of the Duano tribe in Tanah Merah Subdistrict, Indragiri Hilir Regency as a minority tribe, the lack of tolerance in the community triggers the emergence of conflicts such as bullying and alienation from the local community for the Duano tribe, the concept applied in this study is the following steps: Cultural adaptation (Stages of Cultural Adaption) by Young Y.Kim in Brent D.Ruben and Lea P.Stewart (2006:342) describes and describes the steps in the process of adapting a culture through various phases, the method applied in this research is qualitative research with four informants. Data collected through the process of interviews, observation and documentation. There are several things that became the results of the study, which consisted of a planning phase consisting of positive thinking and a sense of tolerance, the honeymoon phase there were two things that were obtained, namely consisting of pleasure and social pressure such as bullying and being ostracized by the community, in the period phase, namely conflict with the community and negative stigma, in the recovery phase there is a language learning phase, in the resolution phase which consists of joining the village apparatus, Fardu Kifayah organization and local youth unions, in the fourth flight phase the informants decide to stay on land and do not want to return to the waters.
