Abstract

The use of activated carbon from the empty bunch oil palm which functions as a filtration medium in the process of produced water. With the use of activated carbon, oil palm empty fruit bunches can make the produced water quality better by carrying out several test from oil and grease, total dissolve solid (TDS), power of hydrogen (pH), turbidity, salinity, and temperature. This study used an experimental method, and the stages of the research method carried out is literature study. This research used activated carbon from the empty bunches of oil palm fruit which had been chemically activated 15% H3PO4 solution. After activating the empty oil palm fruit bunches, they were then put into the catridge filter and housing filter. The research process for filtration of activated carbon for the empty bunch of oil palm empty fruit bunches, and walnuts, which then flow the produced water obtained from the was tank with small-scale testing. Based on result, the test of filtration process of activated carbon of oil palm empty bunches can reduce slightly in the test carried out oil and grease from the pre-filtration by 9 mg/L down to 6 mg/L after filtration process, then total dissolve solid (TDS) which initially falls to 1,300 mg/L to 1,289 mg/L, then the power of hydrogen (pH) which is originally 7,15 decrease to 6,89. Then the salinity which was before the filtration 1400 ppt fall to 1300 ppt. Turbidity which is originally 166 NTU fall to 68,2 NTU, and the measurement the temperature that is originally 27,1℃ increased slightly to 27,8℃.
