Abstract

The Meaning of Kuda Kepang Wirono Kudo Manunggal in Wedding Reception at Sei Mandian Village Kepenuhan District Rokan Hulu Regency Hartatik 169110198 This study intends to know in depth about the symbolic meaning of the Wirono Kudo Manunggal Kepang horse in Sei Mandian Village, KepATIS District, Rokan Hulu Regency. This research focuses on the meaning of the movements of the Kuda Kepang Wirono Kudo Manunggal dancers who come to the bride and groom at the wedding reception. The research method in this study uses a qualitative descriptive approach. Subjects in this study were 7 (seven) informants, consisting of elders, leaders, coaches, handlers, dancers, and a pair of brides who were obtained through purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. In the technique of checking the validity of the data, researchers used triangulation of sources. The results of this study indicate that the symbolic meaning of the Kuda Kepang Wirono Kudo Manunggal dancers in the wedding reception are verbal symbols and non-verbal symbols. (1) Verbal symbols consist of respect which means as a tribute to the host and inviting ancestors to attend a celebration event. Prayer for the bride and groom means that the family has blessed the wedding. Sungkeman means asking for blessings on the marriage of the two brides. (2) Non Verbal Symbol consisting of Braided Horse means as a reminder of the king and queen's ancient travel tools. Whip means stopping the movement of each dance. The shawl is a dance and has a meaning to awaken a possessed dancer or audience. The opening (offering) means that the braided horse has come to keep the promise at the invitation, the dancer washes the feet of the host with flower water which means respect for the host, joins hands and the dancer raises his head up, which means asking God and the spirits who pray. The bride and groom, dissolving the hand, means that the blessed bride will separate herself, the prayer for the bride means that the wife is devoted to her husband and can become mother and parent for her children, and the bride and groom wash the feet of the parents as respect for people parents who have given their blessing on the wedding of the couple.
