Abstract

Broadly speaking, the purpose of this study is to find out how legal protection is for victims of domestic violence and to find out what obstacles occur in providing legal protection to victims of domestic violence. This research was conducted at the Tanjung Balai Karimun District Court. The method used in this study was a survey or direct observation of the research location using a data collection tool, namely interviews. Data obtained directly from the interviewees. The results show that legal protection for victims of domestic violence is in accordance with Indonesian laws, the Criminal Code, and Law No. 23/2004 on the elimination of domestic violence. Forms of legal protection directly from the police by cooperating through other legal protection institutions. Obstacles in providing legal protection to victims of domestic violence are (1) there is fear of the victim against the perpetrator in the victim's economic factor, why is it said because the economy is because the victim feels fear because the perpetrator is the backbone of the family so if the perpetrator is reported to the police and his case The victim continues to be afraid of her future economy, such as the cost of living for the victim in the future, such as to eat children's school fees and other kinds of living expenses. (2) The victim is still thinking about the shame of reporting a case of violence against himself to the police because he will be labeled a disharmonious family by the community by considering the shame of the victim not reporting violence to himself (3) the victim still wants to keep her household for the sake of considering her child's future.
