Abstract

This study aims to determine the pattern of communication between trainers and their students at the Dumai City Naval Base using descriptive qualitative methods and in collecting data using interviews, observation and documentation. While the data obtained are based on primary data sources and secondary data sources. Success in the coaching process is if the communication between the coach and his students can be well established. To communicate with students, of course, the trainer must be able to master the techniques and methods to convey material or practice to their students. Information can be channeled properly if students can receive the message conveyed. Good communication can also form a good communication pattern in carrying out the coaching process. From the results of the research on communication patterns between the trainer and his students, the researchers encountered two communication patterns, namely one-way communication patterns and two-way communication patterns. One-way communication pattern of the trainer as a source of information and the students as recipients of information without any reciprocal communication between the students and the coach. While the second communication pattern is a two-way communication pattern that has a very good impact on the ongoing coaching process because of the reciprocal communication that occurs between the coach and his students, so this communication pattern can provide a good opportunity for success in coaching because students who do not or who those who do not understand the material presented can better understand whatever is conveyed by their trainer.
