Abstract
This study is motivated by the low morals of students at SDN 019 Tambusai, Rokan Hulu. It can be seen from several signs, such as: some students disturb their friends while studying in class, some students do not do the assignments given by the teachers, some students are impolite when talking to their friends, and some students make noise when the teacher explains the lesson material. The aim of this study is to investigate the efforts of Islamic Studies teachers in buiding students’ good morals at SDN 019 Tambusai, Rokan Hulu. This study is conducted at SDN 019 Tambusai, Rokan Hulu. The informants of this study are 2 teachers of Islamic Studies, 1 supporting teacher and 1 student, all of these informants are the research samples. The data collection techniques used are interviews and documentation. The data analysis techniques are processed through the steps of data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing and verification. Based on the data analysis obtained from the interviews, it can be concluded that the efforts of Islamic Studies teachers in building students’ morals at SDN 019 Tambusai are: the teachers familiarize students with habits such as saying greetings before entering class, reciting Al-Qur’an before learning, familiarizing students with toyyibah sentences, familiarizing students with sadaqah (infaq Friday), speaking politely and honestly, helping the students to form the habits of 5S (senyum (smiling), sapa (addresing people), salam (greeting), sopan (polite), salim), familiarizing students with helping others, and habituating them to be optimistic, confident and patient. The teachers also give awards to students who get the highest scores in the form of a charter, give the thumbs up, praise students who do good things, provide examples to students such as being honest, polite and trustworthy, putting trash in its place, maintaining cleanliness and being disciplined in obeying school rules. The teachers also give punishment to students such as memorizing juz 30, memorizing the names of angels, practicing ablution, the pillars of faith and the pillars of Islam in order to make the students always remember them as well as giving other kinds of punishment such as cleaning the classroom or standing in front of the class so that the students become aware and no longer repeat their mistakes.
