Abstract

Oil palm farming in Sosa District, Padang Lawas Regency is one of the jobs and sources of income for farmers. Oil palm farming is expected to be profitable and prosperous for farmers. This study aims to analyze 1) the characteristics of farmers and the profile of oil palm farming, 2) the technique of self-help oil palm cultivation in Sosa District, Padang Lawas Regency, 3) the use of production factors, production costs, production, income and farm efficiency. This research was conducted in Sosa District, Padang Lawas Regency from June 2021 to December 2021. The method used is a survey method. The selection of respondents was done by simple random sampling as many as 40 farmers. The data analysis used is descriptive qualitative and quantitative analysis. The results showed: 1) The characteristics of independent oil palm farmers in Sosa District, Padang Lawas Regency are the average age of the farmers 45 years, the average level of education of farmers is 11 years (SMA), the number of dependents in the family is 4 people, the experience of farming is 13 years. , while the profile of capital farming comes from own capital, the average land area is 3 ha, the workforce is 213.47 HKP/arable/year (TKDK 4.88 HKP and TKLK 208.59 HKP). (2) Oil palm cultivation techniques applied by farmers are generally not in accordance with theoretical recommendations. Research shows that the care, spacing, and fertilization carried out by farmers have not been effective and efficient. (3) The use of production factors: Urea 187.50 kg/cultivated/year, KCL 263.75 kg/cultivated/year, NPK 318.75 kg/cultivated/year, Dolomite 1,046.25 kg/arable/year; pesticides: gramoxon 11.08 liters/arable/year, round-up 18.03 liters/arable/year; and the tools used are 1 unit each. The production cost of self-help oil palm farming in Sosa District, Padang Lawas Regency, was Rp. 20,323.903 arable/year, the resulting production is 41,851.20 kg/arable/year, the gross income is Rp. 68,390,092 arable/year while the net income is Rp. 47,366,140 cultivated/year and obtained an RCR of 3.36, which means that self-help oil palm farming in Sosa District, Padang Lawas Regency is profitable and feasible.
