Abstract

THE ROLE OF SOCIAL SERVICES IN THE EMPOWERMENT OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES IN PEKANBARU CITY ABSTRACT By Denny Amansyah This study aims to determine the role of social services in empowering people with disabilities in Pekanbaru City and to find out what are the inhibiting factors in empowering people with disabilities in Pekanbaru City. The indicators used include the Facilitative Role, the Educational Role, the Representative Role, and the Technical Role. This research was conducted at the Pekanbaru City Social Service using descriptive qualitative research methods. Data collection using observation, interview and documentation techniques. The results of this study indicate that the role of social services in empowering people with disabilities in Pekanbaru City cannot be said to be effective due to several indicators, such as the facilitative role and technical role in which data collection on persons with disabilities has not been carried out evenly and the representational role in which there is still a lack of cooperation with other parties outside in empowering people with disabilities, but in terms of education indicators are going well because all forms of socialization have been carried out by which later can help Pekanbaru City Social Service even has collaborated with PPDI to socialize and carry out activities related to empowering people with disabilities.
