Abstract

In the research to determine the ability to play the violin for grade 6A students. the researcher takes three main aspects to assess the student's ability, that is ability based on the accuracy of the tone, the ability to play the violin standing and sitting, and the last is the tuning technique and the swipe technique. The time taken during this class 6A clective stringed instrument course is one semester while the duration of one semester is six months, active learning ranges from four months. From the explanation above, there is a problem formulation that is how the ability to play the violin for even semester (dance) 6A students, in the selected stringed instrument course for the art education study program for the 2019/2020 academic year? This research uses the theory of the ability to play the violin according to Rino Sanjaya (2016. 49-76) The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive analysis. The subjects of this study were students of the 6th-semester dance class in the 2019/2020 academic year with a total of 3 students and 33 female students. The data collection technique in this research begins with observation, interviewing sources, and documentation during the learning process The results of this study indicate that the abilities possessed by the 6th-semester students of ciass A dance in terms of material are good because evenly all students can master the materai given by the lecturer which outlined in general are the C major, G major and D major seales Meanwhile, the techniques mastered by the 6A grade students are both in terms of the position of attitude in playing the violin, standing and sitting, how to hold the bow correctly Unfortunately, the last technique they have not mastered and can be the violin tuning technique. The results of the overall assessment of grade 6A students in the selected stringed instrument course are an average score (B 75.
