Abstract
A teacher has double roles, namely as a teacher and an educator. Religious character should be possessed by every teacher as a role model that can support the teacher’s performance in the learning process. The problem formulation of the study is how the role of Islamic Studies teachers in building the religious character of students at the SMAN 7 Pekanbaru. The aim of the study is to investigate the role of Islamic Studies teachers in building the religious character of students at SMAN 7 Pekanbaru. The type of the study is qualitative research with a case study approach. The data collection techniques of the study are observation, interviews and documentation. The results of the study show that the Islamic Studies teachers play a role in building the religious character of students. The role of the teachers as educators in building the religious character of students at the SMAN 7 Pekanbaru is by always guiding and encouraging students to have religious character in daily life through the habituation of greetings, smiles, salutations, politeness and courtesy and the habituation in worship such as congregational prayers, religious lectures (sermon), moral development, language programs, and giving directions to be better. The roles of Islamic Studies teachers in building religious character of students are as motivators, initiators, facilitators, inspirators and innovators, as well as good examples for students so that the students will have good feedback in everyday life.
