Abstract

ABSTRACT MARSHALL CHARACTERISTICS OF AC-WC USING KAMPAR MATERIALS WITH ADDITIONAL PET PLASTIC WASTE (POLY ETHYLENE TEREPHTALATE) By : Muhamar Faisal NPM : 183122013 The government through the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing is always trying to innovate and research how to increase the service life of roads. One way to do this is by utilizing polyethylene type plastic waste as an added material for asphalt mixtures on flexible pavements. This is also an effort from the government in reducing plastic waste. The research is aimed to determine the Marshall characteristics of the Laston AC-WC mixture using coarse and fine aggregates sourced from Kampar. The mixing method used is a wet method with laboratory testing. The asphalt material used is 40/50 penetration hard asphalt type PG76 which is mixed with PET plastic waste from used drink bottles. The size of the plastic pieces used is 0.5 cm x 15 cm. The results of the Marshall Characteristics test as a whole, the content of 3% addition of PET plastic is the most ideal and in accordance with the provisions of the 2018 technical specifications. With a stability value of 2656 kg, refusal density 2.305 g/cm³, and Marshall Quotient (MQ) 781.2 kg/ mm. While melting (flow) 3.40 mm, voids in aggregate (VMA) 15.25%, voids in mixture (VIM) 4.85%, voids filled with asphalt (VFB) 68.19%. The use of PET type plastic waste can be used as an additive in the AC-WC mixture and help the government reduce the problem of controlling plastic waste.
