Abstinence in Village Communities Kemang, Pangkalan Kuras District, Pelalawan Regency: A Semiotic Study Roland Barthes This research is motivated by several things, including: the lack of semiotic studies in abstinence in Indonesia, even in FKIP UIR there is no research that uses semiotic theory. There are several semiotic research that has been done before, but the data sources short stories are used, while semiotic research whose data sources are not ban has never been done before. Therefore, the author is interested in know the semiotic code in abstinence from the people of Kemang Village Pangkalan Kuras District, Pelalawan Regency. Based on these, The problem described in this study is "what are abstinence" prohibits found in the community of Kemang Village, Pangkalan District Pelalawan District Drain?, What is the code for abstinence? the people of Kemang Village, Pangkalan Kuras District, Pelalawan Regency?�. The theory that the author uses to analyze this data is Roland's theory Barthes (2017). This study aims to describe, analyze, interpret, and conclude the code in the Village's taboos Kemang, Pangkalan Kuras District, Pelalawan Regency, using the study semiotics of Roland Barthes which includes several codes, namely, (1) hermeneutics, (2) semitic code, (3) symbolic code, (4) proaeretic code, and (5) code cultural. This research uses a descriptive method. This research data obtained through a qualitative approach and using research. Type The research used is a field study. The technique used is interview technique and recording technique. The data in this study are:abstinence that contains a semiotic code in it. Source of data in This research is abstinence in the community of Kemang Village, Sub-District Pangkalan Kuras Pelalawan Regency with the number of taboos 20 data. Based on the data of abstinence with the intended criteria, there are 2 data abstinence for girls, 5 data for abstinence for women, 1 data abstinence for teenagers and girls, 1 data of abstinence for children, 3 data on abstinence for men and women, and 2 data not forbidden for pregnant women. The results of this study indicate that: 1) there is a classification in the abstinence of the people of Kemang Village, District Pangkalan Kuras Pelalawan Regency, 2) there is a semiotic code of Roland Barthes in abstinence from the people of Kemang Village, Pangkalan Kuras District Pelalawan Regency, Pelalawan Regency. The dominant semiotic code is semik code because in the prohibition there are many codes that refers to a character or a place, and a particular object. On the other hand, the semiotic code not found in abstinence is cultural code because there are no markers that refer to a set references that support text.
