Abstract

The author choses interrogative speech politeness in the event it is more dominant with questions. Questions asked by speakers are often impolite, speakers only want to benefit themselves and don’t care if the interlocutor feels aggrieved. Therefore, to measure politeness in the Mata Najwa event. Leech’s theory is used to determine whether the speech is polite or impolite. The problems of this research are; how is the intterogative speech function contained in the Mata Najwa event in Trans 7 and how is politeness scale of the interrogative speech function contained in the Mata Najwa event in Trans 7. The purpose of this study is to determine the interrogative speech function and politeness scale of Leech in the event in Mata Najwa Trans 7. The data source of this research is the video of the Mata Najwa program and the data in this study are all interrogative speeches in the program. The method that the author uses in this research is the method of content analysis (content analysis) and the app approuch used in this study is a qualitative approach. The techniques used in this study are documentation techniques, listening techniques and note-taking techniques. The rersults of te study conclude that there are 89 intterogative utterances or sentences in 7 situasions and from 89 interogative utterances there are 82 utterances that are in accordance with first problem, namely the interrogative function which refers to Chaer’s theory (2010:85-89) and there are 7 data that are not in accordance with the first problem is interrogative function found in utterances 3,6,40,42,50,76 and 86. The function of asking interrogative utterances contains 82 data. The politeness scale contains 89 data, all of which are in accordance with the second problem which refers to Leech’s theory in Chaer (2010:66-69), in the politeness scale the most commonly found is the inderectness scale which contains 76 utterances. The indirect politeness scale is mostly found because in this event there are more questions that are asked directly, the goals is to get the desired answer even though often the sepeech is not polite to the interlocutor. Of the 89 utterances, there are only 5 data of polite speech and 84 data that are classified as impolite. So it can be concluded that the Mata Najwa event on Trans 7 with the theme of fighting ISIS is classified as impolite because there are only 5 polite speeches and more dominated by impolite speech.
