Abstract

The existence of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has spread to all corners of the world, is proven and seriously threatens every human life, because it is not thousands anymore, tens to tens of millions of lives have been lost due to this pandemic, not only the souls of all corners of life affected by this pandemic, who are the most affected. pressure is the hospital and the medical staff. This research is motivated by the difficulty of nurses in communicating information to the families of the patients they serve at the Sipirok Hospital, because of the increasing distance between them and the patient's family, which makes communication barriers between them more and more. This study aims to find out and understand what are the factors that make communication barriers exist and what kinds of communication barriers between nurses and patients' families are and are a problem at Sipirok Hospital, South Tapanuli Regency. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. Research subjects were determined using purposive sampling technique by getting 10 informants. Data collection techniques were carried out by in-depth interviews (deep interviews), observation, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that communication barriers are common and various trigger factors, ranging from misunderstanding, age, difficulty understanding, socio-cultural, education, difficulty understanding patients, not nuclear family, patients exaggerating the problem and until to nurses who are passive, coupled with the spread of the covid-19 pandemic as a very feared and dangerous virus, adding to the tightening of regulations from the government, including to the most important health institutions, as the front line in overcoming this, adding to the problem of communication barriers between nurses and families.
