Abstract
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FAMILY FUCTION WITH RESILIENCE IN STUDENTS LIVING IN BOARDING SCHOOLS Nur Rismiasih 178110185 FACULTY OF PSYCHOLOGY ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY OF RIAU ABSTRACT There are differences between students and other regular students in carrying out academic tasks, where students are required to live in a dormitory and be far from their parents. In addition, they are required to carry out various academic and non-academic programs that have been determined. This causes students to experience pressure and even stress. To overcome the pressure experienced requires high resilience. Family functioning is assumed to affect resilience. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between family functioning and resilience in students living in Islamic boarding schools. The subjects of this study were 285 students consisting of 122 students and 163 high school students (SMA) who were in the Rokan Hulu Islamic boarding school. The data collection method used the family functioning scale compiled by Herawaty (2013) which amounted to 28 items and the resilience scale by Wagnild and Young (1987) which amounted to 25 items. The data were analyzed using Spearman Rank Order correlation where the results showed the correlation coefficient (r) = 0.230 and a significance value of 0.000 (p <0.05). It can be concluded that there is a significant positive relationship between family functioning and resilience in students living in Islamic boarding schools. The resulting correlation value is positive, meaning that the higher the functioning of the family, the higher the resilience, and vice versa, the lower the functioning of the family, the lower the resilience.
