Abstract

This research is motivated because there are still many speakers who use imperative speech incorrectly in interacting. The problems studied in the research are: (1) imperative speech functions and (2) the use of the maxim of politeness principles in each imperative function in educational webinar activities "The role of teachers in developing distance learning in response to the new normal #1" on Youtube. The purpose of this study was to collect data and information about Imperative Politeness. The collected data and information will be described, analyzed, and interpreted in detail and systematically. The main theories used by researchers are Rahardi (2005), Chaer (2010), and Leech (in Rahardi, 2005). The research approach used is a qualitative approach. This type of research uses the type of library research. The research method uses descriptive methods. The data collection technique used is documentation, listening, and note-taking techniques. The data analysis technique used in this research is content analysis. Based on the analysis conducted by the researcher, the results of the research are the function forbidding there are 2 data, the commanding function is 43 data, and the approving and refusing function is 30 data. While the data on the politeness principle, the results of the research are that the maxim of wisdom has 29 data, the maxim of generosity has 16 data, the maxim of appreciation has 4 data, the maxim of simplicity has 5 data, and the maxim of consensus has 21 data. Meanwhile, from 75 imperative speech data, none of the utterances included in the maxim of sympathy were found.
