Abstract
This research begins with the presentation of news in the mass media which provides a picture of a truly free press freedom so that social actors / actors or certain groups are marginalized in news with a specific purpose. Leeuwen introduced a discourse analysis model to detect and examine how a group or a person is marginalized in a discourse. Therefore, this study examines the analysis of discourse in the political news of Haluan Riau newspaper based on Theo van Leeuwen's theory. The problem in this research is how the theory of Theo van Leeuwen's strategy of exclusion and inclusion in the political news of Haluan Riau newspaper? The purpose of this research is to describe, analyze, identify, interpret and conclude information about Theo van Leeuwen's theory of exclusion and inclusion strategies in the political news of Haluan Riau newspaper. The theory in this study uses discourse texts introduced by Theo van Leeuwen. The method used is Content Analysis. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach. The type of research used is library research. In this analysis, it can be concluded that Theo van Leeuwen's theory of exclusion in the political news of Haluan Riau newspaper contains 7 data. The most common data found is passivation as much as 5 data, the factors causing the occurrence, among others, this strategy eliminates the object / actor by pacifying it so that news writers are more likely to use this strategy. Furthermore, for Theo van Leeuwen's theory of inclusion in the political news of Haluan Riau newspaper, there are 22 data. The most common data found is the assimilation-individualization of 6 data, the factors causing this strategy when in the news are not the specific social actor category mentioned in the news, but the community or social group the person is in, news writers tend to create communities or groups. social actors / actors in the news in order to give rise to different perspectives.
