Abstract

The form of this research is Classroom Action Research (CAR), with the aim to improve the learning process in terms of teacher and student activities and to improve learning outcomes in grade VII students at SMP Negeri 1 Perhentian Raja on rectangular flat material, through the application of the Contextual Teaching approach and Learning (CTL). The subjects in this study were Class VII6 students of the 2019/2020 school year, totaling 32 people with heterogeneous abilities. Data collection took place from 20 February 2020 to 19 March 2020 which consisted of two cycles, each cycle consisting of planning, action, observation and reflection. The data collection instrument used in this study was an observation sheet of teacher activities and student activities where the results of the study showed that there had been an increase in the learning process through activities undertaken by students in the learning process so that students had been actively involved. Activities undertaken by students during the learning process are visual activities, oral activities, listening activities, writing activities, mental activities and emotional activities. From the results of the above research it can be concluded that the application of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach can improve the learning process in mathematics subjects for students in class VII6 of SMP Negeri 1 Perhenian Raja in the academic year 2019/2020, especially in terms of quadrilateral.
