Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the role of the Tikar Pandan community in an effort to preserve the traditional music of Kompang in Pekanbaru City, Riau Province. The theory used in describing the role of the pandan mat community, namely, the theory of Soerjono Soekanto (2002:243) there are indicators, namely; 1. Roles include norms associated with a person's position or place in society. 2. The role of what is done by individuals in society as an organization, 3. The role can also be said as individual behavior that is important for the social structure of society. The research method used in this research is non-interactive qualitative. The research subjects in this study were people, places that were observed in the context of turning as targets. Data collection techniques used are observation techniques, interview techniques, and documentation techniques. The analytical technique used is interactive analysis with qualitative data. The results of this study indicate that the norms applied to efforts to preserve the pandan mat community are religious norms, customary norms, norms of decency, ideas to attract people to be willing and interested in the pandan mat community.
