Abstract

Based on a preliminary study at Babussalam High School Pekanbaru, it was found that there were still some students who have low participation in learning. The author found several symptoms in the field, namely: the learning process was more centered on the teacher, the students paid less attention to and did not listen to the subject matter explained by the teacher, the students had low enthusiasm in learning, the students were reluctant to ask questions when the teacher invited them to ask questions, and the students tended to look for other activities such as playing with his pen or even sleeping. The problem formulation of this study is whether the implementation of question and answer method can improve students’ participation in learning Islamic Studies in class XI Science 1 at Babussalam High School Pekanbaru. This study aims to investigate the implementation of question and answer method to improve the students’ paricipation in class XI Science 1 at Babussalam High School Pekanbaru. The type of this study is Classroom Action Research (CAR). This study is conducted in three cycles with the research procedures that include planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The data collection techniques used are observation and documentation. After the data are obtained, then they are processed through editing, coding, scoring, and tabulating. Then, the data are analyzed with the formula P = F/N X 100%. The results of the study show that the implementation of question and answer method can improve students’ participation in learning Islamic Studies in class XI Science 1 at Babussalam High School Pekanbaru. It is known from the results of the percentages of students’ learning participation that keep increasing after implementing the question and answer method from the initial condition only at 32.7%, then the first cycle at 45.2%, then the second cycle at 59.7%, and the third cycle at 82.7% with the category of "Very high".
