Abstract

Concrete brick is an alternative brick form building material substitutes the brick composed of sandstone, Portland cement, and water. The use of plastic waste is expected to reduce environmental pollution due to plastic. This research was conducted to reduce the use of sand as a mixture of concrete with the use of PP plastic waste aims to determine the use of PP plastic waste on compressive strength and water absorption in the concrete brick. The PP plastic waste as a partial substitution of sand uses a mixed percentage of 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% in a compressive strength and water absorption test for 28 days. This study using SNI 03-0349-1989 and the concrete brick molds measurement is 30x10x15 cm. Based on the research conducted, the compressive strength value of 28-day-old concrete bricks at a variation of 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% has decreased. At 0% and 10% produces 119.594 kg/cm2 and 103.858 kg/cm2 compression strength value included in the quality of Class I concrete bricks.At 0% and 10% compression strength value is 19,594 kg/cm2 and 103,858 kg/cm2 which is included in the quality of Class I concrete bricks. Whereas at 20% and 30% the compressive strength value is 50.880 Mpa and 41.963 Mpa which is included in the quality of class III concrete bricks. For the water absorption capacity of 28-day-old bricks, the variations in the use of PP plastic waste were 0%, 10%, 20% and 30%, which increased by 8.948%, 9.851%, 16.064%, and 16.399%, all of which were classified as class I brick quality. with a maximum water absorption of 25% in accordance with SNI 03-0349-1989.
