Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concept of physical violence in the Korean drama My Name. This drama is a qualitative research using Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic model. Semiotics according to Charles Sanders Peirce has three main elements called triangle meaning, namely 1) Sign, 2) Object, 3) Interpretant. The triangle theory of meaning is a question of how it emerges from a sign when people use it when communicating. The results of this study indicate that 1) a Sign is something in a physical form that can be captured by the five human senses carried out by the actors in the drama when doing scenes of physical violence. 2) the Object is the social context that is the source of the sign or something that is referred to by the sign that is done by the actors in the drama. 3) Interpretant is the concept of thought of the person who uses the sign and lowers it to a certain meaning or the meaning that is in one’s mind about the object referred to by a sign where scenes of physical violence are carried out by the actors.
