Abstract

The stick slip vibration that occurs in the process of drilling a SYF field X well by using a Polycrystaline Diamond Compact (PDC) bit creates a serious problem and has to be overcome because the stick slip can cause the drilling process to slow because it can affect some of the structures such as lowering Rate Of Penetration (ROP) value and increasing Mechanical Specific Energy (MSE). Thus Tomax has developed the Anti Stall Tool Technology to reduce the problem of stick slip vibration, this method of the ast. This tool will be used to mitigate the problems of stick slip vibration which will be occured from the Y well in the SYF Field. This study is conducted to evaluate and analyze AST performance on reduce the stick slip vibration that will be occured from the Y well in the SYF field by doing ROP calculations and MSE using parameter Footage, Bit time, Weight On Bit, Rotation Per Minute (RPM), and Torque which is expected to increase ROP and reduce MSE hence the drilling process become faster and efficient. Based on the research, the value of ROP from the Y well is 28 m/h while from the X well is only 27 m/h. Then the occurrence rate of the stick slip on the Y well is only 17% and the X well is 20%. The MSE from the X well reaches 17000 psi while the Y well is only 13000 psi and the total time for the X well takes the drilling process for 105 hours while the Y well takes 88 hours only. Judging from the following results, the use of the AST from the Y well in SYF Field. The Y well can be validated to be successful because it can reduces the MSE, the stick slip, and increase the ROP, hence accelerating the drilling time.
