Abstract

All palm oil mills want to produce the best quality crude oil so that it has market value. One of the ways to improve the quality of palm oil is the drying process of the kernel (core). Where the water content indicated in the kernel is 7%. This study aims to analyze the convection heat transfer coefficient on the heat exchanger pipes and calculate the overall convection heat transfer in the heat exchanger. The results of the calculation of the convection heat transfer coefficient on heat exchanger pipes for air flow velocity of 3.5 m / s, Fan rotation of 1450 rpm, The results of testing the type of staggered pipe staggered, maximum air flow velocity of 5.81 m / s produce the type of flow inside heating pipes 3343 (Transition Flow, Re 2000> 4000), The nusselt number value of turbulent flow in the pipe is 40.10, resulting in a heat transfer coefficient of 84.45 W / m ^ 2 ℃ with a cross-sectional area of 10.32 m2, Mass flow rate 4.30 kg / s of air, with an exit temperature of 46 ℃ in the pipes and the value of heat transfer to the pipes of the heat exchanger 9.1 × 〖10〗 ^ (4) W, with a heat transfer coefficient of 93.19 W / m ^ 2 ℃ and heat transfer value 9.1 × 〖10〗 ^ (4) W. The results of the calculation of the overall convection heat transfer coefficient on the palm fruit kernel heat exchanger for an inlet temperature of 141 oC and an exit temperature of 122 oC with an average temperature of 130 oC, the test results produce an air flow mass of 6.0 × 104 kg / s with a cross-sectional area. 1.96 × 〖10〗 ^ (- 4) m ^ 2, resulting in heat absorbed by the fan 15.18 W, the logarithmic mean temperature difference (LMTD) value of 104.14 oC, and resulting in an overall convection heat transfer coefficient of 0.0158 W / m ^ 2. ℃.
