Abstract

ABSTRACT In teaching Indonesian in the 2013 curriculum on text-based competencies, examining the text of the observation report using content and linguistic aspects is very important to master, especially for junior high school students in addition to being the subject of material required in the curriculum, understanding the skills of compiling observation report text, students able to observe and observe things around the environment, thus fostering a feeling of sensitivity to the natural environment. The problems in this research are (1) How is the student's ability to examine the text structure of the observation report of class VII SMP Negeri 08 Pekanbaru? (2) How is the student's ability to study the language of the observation report text of class VII SMP Negeri 08 Pekanbaru? This study aims to collect data and information about "the ability of students to study the text of the seventh grade observation report at SMP Negeri 08 Pekanbaru in the 2018/2019 academic year". The results of this research are through oral and written tests that the author has done, the results of this study are the ability of class VII students of SMP Negeri 08 Pekanbaru to study the text of the Observation Result Report for the 2019/2020 academic year with a sample size of 110 students, so the total average score is obtained. The average is 76.6 with a score range of 60-79 (in the Good category). Therefore, the researcher concludes that the hypothesis which states that the ability to examine data on news elements of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 08 Pekanbaru in the 2019/2020 school year is in the Good category on a scale of 60 to 79 can be accepted.
