Abstract

ABSTRACT One type of road pavement that is often and widely implemented is flexible pavement. The strength of asphalt concrete is largely determined by the aggregate which provides great support for stability. Aggregate provides great support because it has the largest proportion in the asphalt concrete mixture, which is 90 – 95% of the weight of the mixture. Fine aggregate serves to fill and reduce the voids contained in the asphalt concrete mixture so that it plays a major role in the stability of asphalt concrete. Land sand as one of the natural materials available is very large in the Riau and surrounding areas and has an economic value that is relatively cheaper than rock ash. The method used is laboratory testing with Marshall test equipment by making mixtures with variations in asphalt content of 4.5%, 5.0%, 5.5%, 6.0% and 6.5% and variations in sand content of 0%, 5% , 10%, 15% and 20%. The results showed that the combined gradation of the AC-WC mixture with variations without the addition of sand (0%) and with the addition of 5% and 10% sand was within the limits of the combined gradation of the required specification mixture, while in the variation of the addition of sand 15% and 20% it was outside the specification limits. In planning the AC-WC mixture with Optimum Asphalt Content (KAO) it is known that marshall parameters such as stability, VIM, VMA, VFA, Flow, Marhall Quotient (MQ), Bulk Density (BD) with variations without the addition of sand (0%) and with the addition of 5% and 10% sand meets the specification requirements, while the addition of 15% sand does not meet the requirements at the VMA value of 14.5% which is below the required VMA value of 15%. From the Marshall parameter value at Optimum Asphalt Content (KAO) it can be concluded that with increasing sand content, the Stability and MQ values increase while asphalt content, VIM, VMA and Flow values decrease. The most optimum sand content that can be used for the AC-WC mixture is 10% and has the greatest technical stability value of 1,700 kg and flow of 3.05 mm.
