Abstract

Urban kampoong is an unplanned traditional settlement located in an urban area. The dense and irregular village of Kampung Bandar has a fairly high building density so that there is a lack of land available for public spaces. Public space is an element that can facilitate the growth of a sense of community among people. There are various kinds of public spaces in urban kampoong that can be used by the community as a place to carry out activities and interact between residents. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of sense of community in various types of public spaces in Kampung Bandar Village. This study uses a mixed method, namely a qualitative method to explain the conditions and types of public spaces in Kampung Bandar Village and a quantitative method to determine the level of sense of community in the urban ampong public spaces with data collection methods through the distribution of random questionnaires. The questionnaire data is in the form of a Likert scale which is then processed and the Kruskal Wallis test is carried out to find the level of sense of community by classifying it into three classes, namely low, medium high. The results of this study indicate that the level of sense of community in each type of public space in Kampung Bandar Village has the same level of sense of community, which is at a moderate level. Which means that every type of public space in Kampung Bandar Village can facilitate community activities that create a sense of community. The following is the percentage level of sense of community according to respondents: small roads/alleys (79%), riverside parks/green open space (72%), open fields (57%), and mosque courtyards (45%).
