Abstract
The background of this research is to find out that cultural adaptation in Toba traditional marriages during the pandemic. Toba Batak traditional marriage is a sacred culture for the Batak tribe. The purpose of this study is to find out or understand cultural adaptations regarding how they adjust/interact with their customs in carrying out weddings during the pandemic. Where some of the bride and groom carry out the wedding by following the health protocols or recommendations from the government to shorten the event, time, and customs. In this study, researchers used qualitative research methods. This researcher uses an appropriate theory, namely ethnographic theory, this theory understands the socio-cultural meaning by studying daily life patterns and group interactions. Ethnography is often applied to collect empirical data about human society and culture. There were 9 informants in this study. In this study using snowball sampling.Collecting data using observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study are where the Toba Batak people carry out marriages, some of them shorten the time, reduce their traditional ceremonies, and some also change the procedures for their traditional ceremonies and follow health protocols during the pandemic. In this study, it has been produced how their cultural adaptation in carrying out marriages during this pandemic.
