Abstract

The crime of murder that often occurs in the community which can lead to social problems in society. This crime of murder is a serious problem that can be faced by the community, law enforcement and the government.Therefore, the importance of the police as investigating officers to carry out investigations in order to reveal the motives of the murder cases that occurred.To uncover the murder case, the police conduct an investigation at the crime scene.Along with the development of the global era, many methods of investigation are used to find evidence to identify suspects.In the case discussed in this thesis, the investigating officer uses the fingerprint method as a useful evidence tool to find the perpetrator and find out data from the corpse that have been found.Everyone's fingerprints are not the same from one another, because basically all human fingerprints are different. In order to obtain fingerprint patterns on suspected objects, investigators can use special ink or powder to take fingerprints. The formulation that can be used in this study is how the function of fingerprints in the process of identifying the crime of murder, and what are the obstacles in applying fingerprint identification in the investigation of the crime of murder. In this study, the author uses empirical juridical research methods, which is a type of sociological research that can be said to be field research.This empirical juridical research method can be carried out with real conditions that occur in the community who intend to find facts that occur at the research location. In the results of research that has been carried out by the author is the process of taking fingerprints and the process of fingerprint identification carried out by investigators. Taking fingerprints as a means to find evidence found on objects at the scene of a crime, fingerprints can be found on objects that were touched or stepped on by the perpetrator of a crime.Usually this fingerprint is known as a latent fingerprint. Latent fingerprints also have unique characteristics called minutiae which consist of ending, core, and bifurcation. To look for latent fingerprints, the police must use several special tools such as using special powders and solutions that can be used to take fingerprints, during the identification process, officers also encounter several obstacles such as obstacles from residents around the crime scene or caused by bad weather.
