Abstract

Jeringau is a plant commonly used in medicine. this study purposes to determine the antibacterialactivity of the jeringau rhizome (A. calamus) extract in inhibiting the growth of A. salmonicida, E. tarda and E. ictaluri bacteria and to determine the best concentration of extract in inhibiting of each bacteria. the method used is an experimental method using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 2 replications, namely P1(40% consentration), P2(50% consentration), P3(60% consentration), P4(70% consentration) and P5(80% consentration). the result showed that jeringau rhizome extract contains antibacterial compounds namely phenolics, flavonoids, saponins, terpenoids, alkaloids and essential oil. inhibition zone of jeringau rhizome extract againts the growth of bacteria A. salmonicida at the consentration of 405 to 80% with strong category, E. tarda at the consentration of 40% in a medium category and athe consentration of 50% to 80% in strong category, E. ictaluri at the consentration of 40% to 80% with strong category.
