Abstract

Surfactants and nanoparticles are the right combination for EOR because they can reduce IFT. There are several steps that must be carried out before surfactants and nanoparticles are implemented into enhanced oil recovery, the first of which is characterization. In this study, a combination of surfactants and nanoparticles was tested to determine the characterization of the combination of surfactants and nanoparticles in the form of chemical group analysis using Fourier Transform InfraRed (FTIR), crystal size using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), pH values, density, and viscosity and the ratio is 2:1. On reading the IR spectrum graph between surfactants with a combination of surfactants and nanoparticles, the absorption peaks between surfactants and a combination of surfactants and nanoparticles showed the same groups with absorption peaks that were not much different, such as CH3 groups, CH2 groups, CH, S=O group, SO group, and C=C group, and the addition of the Fe-O group, which indicated the addition of ferrofluid magnetic nanoparticle composition to the surfactant. The crystal size in the combined sample without heating and heating was 27.97 nm and 15.64 nm, indicating that heating can make the size smaller with regular crystal shapes. The surfactant and combination samples have pH values of 2.4 and 3.2. The density and viscosity values in the surfactant samples were 1.007 g/ml and 14.02 cP, and in the combined samples, the density and viscosity values were 0.847 g/ml and 7.54 cP.
