Abstract

X Field is a field that has been managed for 71 years with an OOIP of 349.06 million stock tank barrel oil (STBO). To increase the oil recovery in this field, chemical injection is a suitable method to be applied. One such chemical method is surfactant injection. Surfactants function to improve micro-oil recovery with the function of reducing the surface tension between rock-water-oil grains. The purpose of this study was to examine the compatibility and ability of anionic and nonionic surfactants in reducing interfacial tension as an initial step in selecting surfactants for Field X. Tests were carried out on Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonates (LAS), Alkyl Ether Sulfates (AES), and Isotridecanol Ethoxylates surfactants with concentrations 0.05%; 0.1%; 0.5%; 1%; and 2% with formation water salinity of 17,000 ppm. The method used in this test is the experimental method. The results showed that the anionic surfactant group (LAS and AES) had a better ability to reduce IFT, while the nonionic surfactant group (Isotridecanol Ethoxylates) had better compatibility than the anionic group.
