The cementing process is one of the processes that determines the success of the drilling process. Failure of the cementing process will cause both material and non material losses. One of the causes of cementing failure is the occurrence of filtration loss or the entry of the cement filtrate into the formation, and free water or separate water in the cement suspension. To overcome this various additives have been developed, one example is additives containing karbon. Rice straw karbon is one additive containing karbon, therefore research is needed to determine its effect on filtration loss and free watercement drilling. The first stage of the study was a literature study, then conducted a test todetermine the effect of the addition of Rice Straw Karbon to filtration loss and free water using concentrations of 0%, 2,5%, 5%, 7,5%, 10%, 15%. The Karbon is filtered using mesh 200, and the filtration loss test is carried out using a filter press type LPLT (Low Pressure Low Temperature), while the free water test uses a measuring cup filled with a suspension of cement as much as 250 ml and allowed to stand for 2 hours until there is water which is free on the top of the measuring cup. Based on the results of the study, it was found that rice straw carbon had an effect on filtration loss and free water where the greater the addition of rice straw concentration, the lower the filtration loss and free water values, where the filtration loss at a concentration of 15% obtained a filtrate value of 180 ml, this value met the API standard. while the free water that meets the API standard is at 15% rice straw carbon concentration, which is 15ml.
