Abstract

In the reservoir, oil containing paraffin components is very difficult to produce, especially when occur temperature change in the reservoir which makes the oil easy to solidify. The presence of paraffin component causes high viscosity of the oil which will have a negative impact on decreasing the flow rate of oil production. Decrease in viscosity will make the oil can be produced properly. One way to reduce the value of viscosity and pour point on frozen oil is to use the bacteria method. The bacteria used were Pseudomonas aeruginosa which is a type of thermophilic bacteria and has the ability to decompose long chains of carbon, such as for example in plastic. These bacteria are used for the treatment of frozen oil which is environmentally friendly. This study aims to degrade paraffin in oil by analyzing the reduced value of viscosity, pour point and pH in frozen oil samples treated by Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria. This study used an experimental method that was tested on 3 different samples. Sample 1 is a mixture of frozen oil and Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria. Sample 2 is a mixture of frozen oil, Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria and NaCl. Sample 3 was only frozen oil without any mixture of these bacteria. This research consists 0f 4 processes, namely the incubation process, viscosity testing, pH levels testing and pour point testing. Incubation is a process where the sample will be stored in a container at a temperature of 60°C for 4 days. Further testing the viscosity using a Redwood Viscometer which was tested at temperatures of 37°C, 40°C, 45°C and 50°C. Then test the pH using pH paper. The last is pour point testing using a water bath. From the research that has been done, the results show that there is a decrease in viscosity and pour point in the sample. This is evidenced in the oil sample that was not treated with bacteria had a viscosity value of 64.03 cs and the sample that was given bacteria had a viscosity of 52.13 cs. Meanwhile, the pour point value decreased by around 1-2°C.
