Abstract

ABSTRACT Yulia Citra. 2021. Thesis. Violation of the Cooperation Principle in the Mata Najwa Bara Program at the Prosecutor's Headquarters in Trans 7: Grice's Perspective The difference in the maxim of the cooperative principle proposed by Grice and the speech culture of Indonesian society causes violations of the cooperative principle to occur frequently. This makes the authors interested in conducting research on violations of the Grice cooperation principle in the Mata Najwa Bara program at the Prosecutor's Headquarters in Trans 7. The problem contained in this study is how the violation of the cooperative principle occurs and what is the reason for the violation of the cooperative principle in the Mata Najwa program. Bara at the Prosecutor's Headquarters in Trans 7. The source of data in this study is the language activity that occurs in the Mata Najwa program with the theme Bara at the Prosecutor's Headquarters on Wednesday, August 28, 2020. This study uses a qualitative approach and uses a content analysis method. This type of research is library research or (library research). Data collection techniques are documentation, listen, and record techniques. The results of this study were from 271 utterances found 83 utterances that were violated. From the 83 speech data, there are 25 utterances that violate the maxim of quantity with 5 categories of reasons for the violation. For the maxim of quality, there are 8 utterances that violate with 5 categories of reasons for the violation. Furthermore, for the maxim of relevance there are 23 utterances that violate with 11 categories of reasons for the violation. For the maxim of manner/implementation, there are 27 utterances that violate the maxim of manner/implementation with 10 categories of reasons for the violation. The types of violations of the four maxims are friendliness, politeness, intimacy, rejection, sharing of information, humor, satire, evasion, provocation, not knowing a definite answer, ordering, self-defense, asserting, pleasantries, denying, and annoyed. Even though there was a violation, the speech partner did not mind it and the conversation continued well. Violations of Grice's cooperative principle are common. Cultural differences make the principle of Grice's cooperation not universally applicable to all languages, especially what happened in the Mata Najwa Bara program at the Prosecutor's Headquarters in Trans 7.
