Abstract

In general, concrete is used as a construction material which is often used in construction. As a result of using concrete, while the constituent materials are limited and expensive, breakthroughs have been made to replace the constituent materials without reducing the quality of the concrete itself. One form of this breakthrough is done by replacing these materials with other materials utilizing the waste that is around us. This study aims to determine the effect of iron powder on compressive strength, split tensile strength and slump value of concrete, using a cement water factor of 0.4. Iron powder is used as part of the weight of fine aggregate, with a mixture proportion of 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. Based on the results of concrete using a mixture of iron powder, there was a decrease in the value of the concrete slump, the largest decrease occurred in the proportion of the mixture of 100%, which reached a value of 71.33 mm. In the concrete compressive strength tester, the biggest decrease in the compressive strength of concrete in concrete with a mixture of 100% iron powder with a compressive strength value of 25,949 MPa of 23.40%. The test for the split tensile strength of concrete experienced the greatest increase in the mixture of 100% with a split tensile strength value of 2.146 MPa, an increase of 49.23%, and a decrease in the proportion of 50% with a split tensile strength value of 1.344 MPa of 6.53%. Based on research, concrete using a mixture of iron powder cannot be used for heavy construction, but iron powder which can be used for light construction work to reduce the iron powder waste that is around us.
