Abstract

Old oil wells and Water Flooding are less effective in sweeping because the oil viscosity is higher than the water viscosity causing less sweeping to occur, and also the high water permeability causes water to flow without pushing the oil. This is the goal of polymer injection to increase Sweep Efficiency in oil recovery. Green Jelly Leaf is one of the plants that can produce polymers containing pectin type polysaccharides. The method used in this research is the process of pretreatment and extraction. The characterization that will be carried out in this study is the SEM and FTIR tests. Polymer testing includes: Viscosity, Compatibility, Salinity, and Thermal. Extraction results obtained as much as 100 mL of 1 liter of initial solution. Then the viscosity test showed the highest results were obtained at a concentration of 3000 ppm with a viscosity of 2.05 cp compared to the viscosity of xanthan gum with 95 cp. The SEM results showed the formation of polymers with irregular round oval shape with rough and hollow surfaces. While the FTIR results show the presence of OH groups and the presence of bonds between C-H. Compatibility testing showed the presence of precipitates at various concentrations of the extraction results. Meanwhile, Salinity, Shear Rate and Thermal tests showed a decrease in viscosity with increasing salinity, Shear Rate and Temperature. The biopolymer obtained is still not good enough, further studies are needed.
