Abstract

ABSTRACT REPRESENTATION OF THE ROLE OF THE FATHER IN THE FILM SEARCHING (FERDINAND DE SAUSSURE’S SEMIOTICS ANALYSIS) MHD IRFANDI 159110227 This study aims to determine how the role of the father being represented in this film. A father has a vital role in his family. For kids, father was important figure that can affect their growth until they become an adult. In his role as father, his responsibility is not only make a living, other than that he has to know how good parenting is. A father also has a role as a teacher for his kids. And a father also plays very important role to keep his kids from bad things and danger. Father has a role that can affect the growth of his kids. Because of that several things, a father is important figure for his family. This study using qualitative methods to obtain results. Using semiotic analysis from Ferdinand de Saussure to see the meaning that appear in this film as a signified and signifier. Unit of analysis in this study is some scene in this film that show signified and signified that represented the role of the father. The result shown that this film, with drama genre, success to describe the role of the father to his kid. Supported with story plot with kidnapping and violence theme, the role was very clearly seen. Seen the effort that the father did to save his kid. The scene that taken for analyze shown 6 criteria of the role of the father played by David Kim in whole film. Of which are as an economic provider, caregiver, friend and playmate, teacher and role model, protector, and problem solver.
