Abstract

The research was conducted in Pantai Village, Kuantan Mudik District, Kuantan Singingi Regency, Riau Province, geographical position at 101° 34' 29.4945"E - 0°41'26.7776"S and 101° 37' 11.1973" E - 0°44'09.5639" S . The focus of the research object is geology and depositional environment. The research method consists of several analyzes, namely petrographic analysis, mudrock and Arkose sublitharenite sandstones, stratigraphic analysis composed of non-carbonated claystones of the Lower Members of the Palembang Formation during the Middle Miocene and non-carbonated sandstones of the Middle Members of the Palembang Formation during the Late Miocene, the geology of the study area is controlled by Plio-Plistocene tectonics, namely compression. the uplift of the row of hills and the pattern of deposition are controlled by the regression phase and the erosional phase. Meanwhile, facies analysis is based on stratigraphic profile, lithofacies analysis and facies association. The vertical stratigraphic profile from bottom to top was arranged by 15 representative stations from 40 observation stations, based on depositional factors and patterns. The lithofacies analysis was arranged based on lithology, physical, chemical, biological, sedimentary structure, and grain size. It was found that claystone lithofacies were Lithofacies Fm, FI, Fhmvs, Fcf, and Fvso and sandstone lithofacies were Lithofacies Sm and St. The depositional environment is interpreted as a delta front system towards a developing deltafront fluvial system, the channel fills, mouth bars (as inserts) are controlled by the movement of ebb currents, changes in turbidite and laminar flows (gravity flows) with a suspension system forming a progradation. Based on the arrangement of lithofacies groupings, it can be concluded that the Facies association, namely Interdistributary Bays, is composed of interspersed claystones of medium-fine sand, medium-silt-sand claystones, ripples, with macroforms Distal Bar, Channel, Abandoned Channel Fills. The Delta Channel is composed of massive oxidized claystones, cracks, medium-coarse sandstones and moderately coarse-grained sandstones, with claystone macroforms in Abandoned Channel Fills and sandstones in the Secondary and Primary Channels. And the Distributary Mouth Bar is composed of medium-fine sandstone and medium-very fine sand with characteristics that are smooth to the top, with Secondary and Primary Channel macroforms, Abandoned Channel, Lateral Accretion. Geological potential based on regional and facies analysis of the depositional environment of the research area, namely as a kitchen in the South Sumatra Basin
