Abstract

This research is motivated by the low student mathematics learning outcomes, allegedly caused by the difficulty of students understanding mathematical concepts that do not use real world situations. Research conducted in the odd semester of the 2019/2020 school year aims to see the effect of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach on student learning outcomes at SMP Negeri 9 Pekanbaru. This study was a quasi-experimental study (Quasi Experiment) using a nonequivalent control group design research design consisting of 38 students in the experimental class and 35 students in the control class with a purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques used are test techniques in the form of pretest and posttest. Tests of student learning outcomes after being given treatment were analyzed with descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical analysis. The results showed a difference between the mathematics learning outcomes of experimental class students and control class students with. Based on this, it can be concluded that there is an influence of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach to student learning outcomes at SMP Negeri 9 Pekanbaru.
