Abstract

The Garuda Sakti, Panam intersection is an intersection that often causes traffic jams in the city of Pekanbaru due to the high trrafic volume, inadequate facilities and the intersection is an unsignalized intersection. Thefore, there is a high number of degrees of saturation (DS), intersection delays (D) and queue lengths. The purpose of this study is to determine the performance of existing traffic, to apply traffic engineering strategies and to compare the current condition with the traffic engineered after. The research technique was carried out by conducting a direct survey in the field during peak hours for 3(three) days, 2(two) days of peak hours and 1 (one) day off–peak hours. Data taken in the field such as trrafic volume and geometric intersections were processed and analyzed using the Indonesia Road Capacity Manual (MKJI 1997). The results of the analysis obtained in the existing conditions obtained the value of the degree of saturation = 1.18, the value of the intersection delay = 35.84 sec/pcu, the value of the queue probability = 56% - 114%. In improving the performance of the intersection by planning a signalized intersection, the degree of saturation = 0.78, the intersection delay = 32 sec/pcu, the probability value of the queue is 33% - 63% and on the increase in performance with the roundabout, the degree of saturation value = 0.69 the intersection delay = 2.43 sec/pcu, the queue probability value is 11% - 27%. The results of improving the performance of intersections, especially roundabouts, can reduce the number of degrees of saturation, delays, and queuing opportunities, which means that they can describe congestion as suggested by MKJI 1997.
