Abstract

The Effect of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Model on the Mathematical Problem Solving Ability of Class VIII Students of SMP Negeri 9 Pekanbaru DEWI SAFITRI NPM. 156410657 Thesis. Department of Mathematic Education. FKIP. Universitas Islam Riau. Supervisor: Sari Herlina, S.Pd., M.Pd. ABSTRACT Students mathematical problem solving ability are very important abilities possessed by students, because with these abilities students can more easily solve contextual problems. This study aims to determine the effect of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on students mathematical problem solving abilities and find out the difference in the improvement of mathematical problem solving abilities of students who obtain learning using Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model with students who obtain conventional learning in terms of ability high, medium, and low. This research is a quasi-experimental research with non-equivalent control group design which consits of class as an experimental class using Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and class as a control class that uses conventional learning. Data collection instruments used in this tudy were pretest and posttest. Data collection techniques used in this study were test techniques. The data analysis techniques used is descriptive statistical analysis techniques and inferential statistical analysis. The results showed differences in the mathematical problem solving ability of experimental class students and control class students. This can be seen from the calculation , according to the criteria is rejected and is accepted. So it can be concluded that there is an effect of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on the mathematical problem solving ability of student of class VIII of SMP Negeri 9 Pekanbaru, and using the t-test results obtained are , according to the criteria is rejected and is accepted. It can be concluded that there is a difference in the improvement of mathematical problem solving abilities in medium ability of class VIII SMP Negeri 9 Pekanbaru who obtained learning using the ProblemBased Learning (PBL) model with students who obtained conventional learning.
