Abstract

Indonesia is an archipelagic country that has the largest agricultural community in the world, one of which is coconut plantations. From these things, it causes environmental pollution in the form of waste, one of which is coconut fiber. The basic idea of using coconut fiber waste is to utilize materials that are not used and have economic value for the community as an added material in the manufacture of concrete. The use of coconut fibers in the fiber concrete mixture uses coconut fibers that have become ash. This study aims to determine the effect of adding coconut fiber ash in the concrete mixture to the value of compressive strength, tensile strength of concrete and determine the percentage of coconut fiber ash to achieve the optimum value. The test object was cylindrical concrete (150 mm x 300 mm) with variations in the addition of coconut fiber ash as a partial replacement of cement by 0%, 2.5%, 4%, 5.5% and 7% of the cement weight. This research uses the concrete mix planning method referring to the SNI-03-2834-2002 standard. The results of the compressive strength of concrete at the age of 28 days with the test specimens used as many as 30 percentages consisting of 3 samples of test objects that the addition of coconut fiber ash as a partial replacement of cement at a percentage of 2.5% to 7% decreased the compressive strength of concrete. The results showed that the split tensile strength of 28-day-old concrete with a percentage of 2.5% and 4% decreased, while the percentage of 5.5% increased, but the percentage of 7% decreased again. In this study, the percentage of coconut fiber ash that reached the optimum value that met the requirements of fc' 20 MPa was 2.5% and 4%, while the percentages of 5.5% and 7% did not meet therequirements.
