Abstract

Students, become one of the population as sales targets and a very promising market for most or even all online shops. Considering the environment, association, friendship, lifestyle, pocket money given, their freedom of expression, being free from parental supervision (because of wandering), and the higher level of access to social media they use, this is the gap where the tendency for consumptive behavior in students is very high. This is what then makes teenagers have a tendency to behave consumptively. The purpose of this study was to describe the consumptive behavior of the students of the Faculty of Psychology, Islamic University of Riau. The population of this study is the active students of the Faculty of Psychology, Islamic University of Riau, amounting to 816 students. The sample in this study were 268 students of the Faculty of Psychology, Islamic University of Riau. This research belongs to the type of quantitative descriptive research with the sampling technique used is non-probability with purposive sampling type. This study does not test the hypothesis but provides an overview of the level of student consumptive behavior with the conclusion that the consumptive behavior of students using Instagram at the Faculty of Psychology UIR is low.
